Module 16 of Kidney School explains how people with kidney failure can live for decades with dialysis and/or a kidney transplant. This module also describes the long-term effects of dialysis and how to deal with them. The purpose of Kidney School Continuing Education courses is to enable the learner to better understand the medical and psychosocial impacts of end stage kidney disease, as well as patients’ experience managing this chronic condition.

Objectives

After taking this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe 4 long-term problems of dialysis.
  • Explain the role of longer and/or more frequent hemodialysis in addressing long-term problems of dialysis.
  • Describe several steps patients can take to help avoid long-term problems of dialysis.
